How to get Game of Thrones hair using clip-in hair extensions

In need of some serious hair inspiration? Looking for a style that’s a bit different? Well, in case you’ve been asleep for the last few years, Game of Thrones is now an un-missable TV (and hair) phenomenon. Whether you’re a fan of the hit show or not, you can’t help but fall in love with the intricate braids, waves and twists of the stars’ amazing hair.

This beautiful style is inspired by our favourite character: the formidable, dragon-taming queen, Daenerys Targaryen. Whether she’s freeing slaves, leading armies, or stepping over the men who fall at her feet, her hair always looks sensational – and now so can yours!

We’ll show you how to recreate this gorgeous style using your clip-in hair extensions, with a little help from Miss Alex of course. She’s made one of her super helpful videos to show you exactly how it’s done. And it’s easier than you’d think.

So let’s get going! First, get your equipment together.

Clipping your extensions in

If you’ve been following this series of tutorials, you’ll be a pro at clipping your hair extensions in by now so we won’t bore you with all the details of that step. But don’t worry if you’re new to clip-in hair extensions, you can find out everything you need to know in our first tutorial. So, just go clip your extensions in, and then head on back here for your next step!

Braiding your hair

This style is all about the braids. To get started, part your hair in the centre and create a section of hair at the front on one side for your braid. Then spilt this into three smaller sections and begin your braid. Take one of the outer sections and place it under the middle strand of hair, then take the outer section from the opposite side and place that one under the middle strand.

Once you’ve got your braid going, you can start picking up smaller strands of hair and adding them to the stands as you’re crossing them under. Once your braid reaches to about an inch behind the ear, stop picking up extra strands and just braid all the way down to the ends before securing with a hair tie.

Repeat this on the other side of your head.

Now you need to make another two braids, by making sections of hair underneath the top braids and following the same steps. You should end up with two braids on each side, winding round to the back of your head, check out the video to see exactly how it should look. And don’t worry if your hair extensions are visible at the moment, we can fix that later!

Pulling your braids

To make your braids look thicker, gently pull out the sides of the braids like Alex does. This has the added bonus of covering your extensions.

Take all four braids and pull them together at the back of your head, securing in place with a hair tie. You can now take out the four individual hair ties at the end of your braids.

Finishing the look

Give the hair at the crown of your head a fluff up with your comb if it needs a bit of extra height, and check to see if there are any visible hair extensions clips at the back of your head. If there are, don’t panic – simply take a hair grip and pin your braids in place to cover them.

How easy was that? Gorgeous Game of Thrones hair in no time! Now where did you put your dragon…
