How to do a fishtail braid with clip-in hair extensions
Ever wondered how to create an intricate fishtail braid? Looking for a sexy, tousled look for your clip-in hair extensions? Don’t fancy trying complicated braiding? Welcome to your first day at braid school ladies! We’re here to help.
Funky fishtail braids look crazy difficult (we admit it, we got the fear too) but they are actually much easier than they look – phew! And the lovely Miss Alex is back with one of her fab videos to show you how your braid can make the grade.
Just follow these simple step-by-step instructions and you’ll have an impressive fishtail braid to wow your friends (and that hot coffee shop guy). First up, get everything you need ready.
You’ll need
-
Your clip-in hair extensions (for a nice thick braid)
-
Sectioning comb with a long tail
-
Clear hair tie
-
Hair grips
Ready to braid? Let’s get started.
Clipping your hair extensions in
Before you start braiding, you need to apply your hair extensions. If you need a quick recap or you’re new to clip-in hair extensions, just take a peek at Alex’s video showing you exactly how to clip in your hair extensions.
Once you’ve applied your hair extensions, brush through them to make sure your hair is lovely and smooth.
Sectioning your hair
Now it’s time to start getting your hair in the right place for your braid. Decide whether you would like your braid to fall on the left or right.
Pull all of the hair over to your chosen side and divide it into two roughly equal sections. We’ll call them ‘Section 1’ and ‘Section 2’. Good names huh?
Making the braid
Now it’s time to get your braid on, you might want to do a quick finger stretch to limber up! Just kidding.
Here’s how we braid. Take a strand from the outside edge of Section 1 and bring it over into Section 2. Next take an outer strand from section 2 and cross it over into Section 1. Have a look at Alex doing this in the video to get a really good idea of how it’s done.
Now repeat this all the way down to the end of your braid, without pulling it too tight, and secure the end with a clear hair elastic.
Finishing up
Now you just need to a couple of little touches to get your braid looking its best.
Pull some soft strands of hair from around your face with your comb to frame that gorgeous face of yours. Grip any strands that fall out from the back or sides back in place with a couple of hair grips.
Now gently pull on the sides of your braid with your fingers to make it look thicker and more voluminous. Be careful here, you don’t want to pull all of your hard work to pieces! All that’s left is to fluff up the top section of hair above your braid with your comb.
Ta da, one fabulous fishtail braid! Take a bow, you’re a proud graduate of braid school.
